Summer Camp Scholarships Available

Love to send your child to camp but can't afford the cost? Summer Camp Scholarships are being offered by the Horne Lake Outdoor Centre for upcoming summer camps. Going to camp is a rite-of-passage for many youth.  Taking part in group activities outdoors and camp living are proven ways to build self esteem and encourage healthy habits.  Attending summer camp also helps to develop social skills and the friendships that can last a lifetime.

In reality, many children on Vancouver Island never experience the joy and benefits of attending summer camp because their families simply can’t afford it.   “Every person should experience the benefits of outdoor education”, says Richard Varela, Executive Director at the Horne Lake Outdoor Centre.  “I’m pleased to announce the creation of a Camp Scholarship Fund to assist low-income families in attending camp”.  Camp scholarships are available for qualifying families with children aged eight to eighteen who would like to create great summer camp memories.

Scholarships will be awarded on a first come first serve basis, based on need, so apply immediately.  Only partial scholarships will be awarded.

ELIGIBILITY:

Families must apply in writing indicating interest and stating their Annual Taxable Income as reported to Revenue Canada for the most recent year. All applicants must provide a rationale for requiring financial assistance and details pertaining to the camper including name, age, school and any other camps or outdoor programs previously attended. Applications will be accepted until June 15th and must come with a $100 deposit. Eligible families will be selected and financial assistance will be based on demand and proven need.
